I admit it. I hate member sites. First of all I am on the computer almost all day long working, so I don’t want to be on the computer in my spare time if I can avoid it. I know all you Facebook lovers are gasping in indignation. Secondly, I forget about them. I remember that I signed up for Lynda.com when the stinking payment comes out at the end of every month. Then I grit my teeth because I forgot to use it again this month. What a pain in the rear!
So this is not a great lead-in or anything, but I am just explaining why I was not excited to review abcteach.com. Good grief, there are 35,000 downloadable PDF, printable worksheets! I get overwhelmed at Aldi’s and there’s only one brand to choose from! However, since I am a faithful reviewer I decided I did not have a choice and therefore dove into the site.
Wow, on my very first visit to the site I discovered they had printables to create a visual schedule. I have been scouring Google to find printable pictures to use for a visual school schedule, chore chart and similar items to use with little to no success. Not to mention the countless precious hours spent thinking of different phrases to put into the search engine to find just the right resources. Now here it was, all laid out and within 2 hours I had all the printables I wanted plus several hundred I didn’t even think of, downloaded to my hard drive, printed out and cut with my trusty paper cutter. That was quite unexpected.
I highly recommend you go to their website because they have 5000 free printables that you can try out. It can be quite addictive. There are numerous subjects with I don’t know how many categories of learning helps. I’m not sure how to even accurately describe them to you. You just have to see for yourself.
If you like what you find, for a very reasonable annual charge you have access to all 35,000 pages of worksheets, abc tools, activities, etc., with new tools added every day. You can even custom make your own worksheets, which is really cool. These are great for group teaching or reinforcing subjects you are currently teaching, or maybe just a rainy, dismal day.
I was also impressed by their weekly newsletter. When you become a member you automatically receive a weekly member newsletter so the site stays top of mind (this was very helpful since I am the type to forget I am even a member in the first place). In the newsletter they outline new worksheets and tools that have been added that week, new tools and materials as well as seasonal tools that are applicable to that time period.
The real test of value came when I was sitting at my desk, thinking of a class I had to teach that evening. I thought of the site and decided to log on and print out some more worksheets to go with my lesson. I was miffed when I tried to log on and realized my 30 day trial membership had expired. There were several things I wanted to use this week and drat! Now I can’t. So…I think it is time to talk to dear Hubby about joining.
All in all, if you spend any time at all “Googling” for things like I do, this site is a no brainer. You can find just about anything right here without having to search through all the trash on the internet to find it. The cost for membership to ABC Teach is $40 per user per year, or $70 for a two year license. They also have group discounts for multiple licenses. For a little over $3 a month, it is worth the time you save alone. This is a total thumbs up.
